Josh Gruss was previously a partner at Gruss & Co., a private investment firm based in New York City. Prior to working at Gruss & Co., Joshua worked in investment banking at Bear Stearns & Co. Before his career in finance, Josh worked at Sony Music, Atlantic Records and Clear Channel’s Live Music Division. Mr. Gruss earned his BA from Trinity College in Hartford, CT and an MBA from both Columbia University and London Business School. He served 6 years in the U.S Coast Guard.
Neil is the former Managing Director of Alfred Music Publishing. Neil was previously President of S1 Songs America and also its predecessor Dimensional Music Publishing. Previously, he was East Coast GM for Concord Music Group after spending 16 years with Warner/Chappell Music, most recently as SVP of Creative Music Solutions. He also spent 6 years as the Head of International for BMI. Neil is a composer, classically trained French horn player and jazz guitarist. He serves on the boards of the BMI Foundation, the Johnny Mercer Foundation and the National Music Publishers Association.
Richard was a founding partner of R2M Music. Previously, Richard was the President of Sony/ATV Music Publishing, having worked for Sony Music/ CBS for 25 years. Richard negotiated the acquisition of ATV Music Publishing that included the Beatles catalog. He was responsible for signing writers such as Bob Dylan, Neil Diamond, Stevie Nicks, Lauryn Hill, Sarah McLachlan, Fugees, Sade, Everything But The Girl, and Oasis. Richard is a UK qualified solicitor and is based in New York and London.
Chief Financial Officer
Jennifer Scher is the Chief Financial Officer of Round Hill Music. Previously, from 2008 to 2012, Ms. Scher was the Chief Financial Officer of Spirit Music Group. From 2004 to 2007, she was Senior Director of Corporate Finance at EMI Music Publishing, where she also served as Director of Finance for North America from 1997 to 2004. From 1996 to 1997, Ms. Scher worked at CBS in the Corporate Audit Department. From 1993 to 1996, she was a Senior Analyst in the Audit and Business Advisory Practice Department of Arthur Andersen. Ms. Scher graduated with a B.S. from Tufts University, earned an M.B.A. from the New York University Stern School of Business and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Chief Operating Officer
Michael spent 7 years at Warner/Chappell music serving as the Sr. Director of Creative IT and Marketing Development, and previously the Director of Strategic Marketing. Throughout his tenure he helped build the advertising and video game division by pitching and licensing Warner/Chappell’s catalog; developed branding and marketing strategies; developed and deployed interactive promo kits; and was the designer of the company’s creative pitching system. Prior to Michael’s tenure at WCM, he was a music supervisor with credits ranging from CBS’ 94 and 98 Winter Olympic broadcast; Cartoon Network’s “Courage the Cowardly Dog”; Scholastic’s feature “Clifford’s Big Movie” to WBOL’s interactive Looney Tunes and Gotham Girls webisodes. Early in his career, Michael produced and managed a number of music libraries. Michael is a composer and a graduate of Berklee College of Music.
Vice President, General Manager Nashville
Mark comes to Round Hill Music with an extensive Nashville based career. He has been involved in the music industry as a creative in the both the record label and music publishing areas. Mark started his career at Silverline/Goldline Music where he worked with such songwriters as Steve Earle, Jimbeau Hinson, and Tony Brown. When Silverline/Goldline merged with Lorimar Telepictures, Mark remained with the company as the main creative marketing person in the Nashville operation. During this time he secured many recordings for the company including “A Little Bit In Love” and “Chains” both of which were #1 hits for Patty Loveless. When Lorimar Telepictures merged with Time-Warner, Mark remained and worked for Warner/ Chappell Music. During his tenure he had the opportunity to work such writers as Gretchen Peters, Gail Davies, Steve Bogard, Lionel Cartwright, Jon Vezner, and Steve Earle as well as securing many notable cuts for the company including “The Chill Of An Early Fall” #1 for George Strait, title cuts on Randy Travis’ “High Lonesome,” Highway 101’s “Paint The Town,” and other top 10’s with Patty Loveless “Jealous Bone,” and new artist Jann Brown “Tell Me Why.” In 1993, Mark was asked to join the A&R team at Liberty Records. There he served as the primary creative for song acquisition and worked closely with many artists on the label including John Berry, Billy Dean, Tanya Tucker, and Suzy Bogguss. In 1995, the Liberty Records name changed back to it’s original name, Capitol Records, and Mark was named of V.P. and head of A&R. In this new position, Mark was instrumental in the creative development of the debut projects for both Trace Adkins and Deana Carter, as well as being part of the team that signed Keith Urban. In July 1999, Mark joined Universal Music Publishing Group where he served as Creative Director working with such notable songwriters as Kostas, Rivers Rutherford, Monty Powell, Troy Verges, Stephanie Bentley, Mark D. Sanders, and Gordon Kennedy. In 2002, Mark joined the A&R team at Sony Records. While at Sony, Mark worked on projects for Gretchen Wilson, Montgomery/Gentry, Miranda Lambert, Keith Gattis, Van Zant, and Trent Willmon, as well as many others. Mark was responsible for picking the Montgomery/ Gentry single, “Hell Yeah,” which sold an estimated 700,000 pieces as well as their #1 hit with “Lucky Man.” In 2007, Mark re-entered the music publishing world by joining the new music publishing company, Crossﬁre 3. At Crossfire 3, Mark establish policies and procedures, brought in writer/artist Keith Gattis and a catalog of songs, obtained funding to record a new album, and was the executive producer of Gattis’ Bones album. In 2010, Mark joined Root 49 Music Publishing as the Chief Creative Oﬃcer where he oversaw the song catalogs and careers of songwriters Danny Myrick, Bridgette Tatum, and Odie Blackmon. Mark is a graduate of Vanderbilt University in with a double major in Economics and Engineering Science. Before entering the music industry, Mark spent four years as a musician in the Nashville local band scene.
Vice President, Creative Marketing
Tami’s early career started out as Adult Contemporary Promotion Manager at Epic Records where she worked on various projects ranging from Michael Jackson’s “Thriller,” Cyndi Lauper’s “She’s So Unusual” to Quiet Riot. After her stint at Epic she spent the next few years at Lorimar/WB Television as the Music Coordinator for such shows as Dallas, Knots Landing, Falcon Crest, Perfect Strangers as well as many other shows and movies of the week. Next Tami joined Killer Music as an A&R rep for the company’s publishing division. A few years later, Tami jumped back into a music supervisory role by joining The Budd Carr Company. During her tenure at The Budd Carr Company, she music supervised the films Rockstar, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Wild Things, Dance With Me and the television show, Cupid. Tami later found a home at EMI Music Publishing as its VP of Film and Television. While there Tami managed the staff of EMI’s film and television department, oversaw and achieved the $50M annual synch/licensing goals by pitching the company’s vast catalog of over one million copyrights to film and television. For the first few years at EMI, Tami concurrently acted as an independent Music Supervisor for the film Barbershop 2, television shows such as Fastlane, Kevin Hill as well as consulted for ABC during their 2006-2007 pilot season. Most recently, Tami founded the independent music creative licensing company, Forward Syncing.
Head of Administration
Previously head of Administration for global independent music publisher, S1 Songs America, John possesses more than twenty years of industry experience in the areas of publishing administration, copyright, licensing, business affairs, income tracking and royalties. Holding positions with multi-national corporations and independent companies in both New York and Nashville, John has managed posts with music publishers (Sony/ATV Music, Reach Global, The Royalty Network), as well as, record companies (Sony Music, Elektra Entertainment, Wind-Up Records). Beginning his career in BMI’s International Department, he then joined Sukin Law Group as a legal assistant. John has also been a guest lecturer at the music business schools at NYU, Hofstra and SUNY – Oneonta. John possesses a BS in Music Merchandising, Hofstra University and a MS in Music Education from Long Island University. Also, a studied guitarist, he has performed and taught guitar for many years.
Sr. Director, Creative
Mallory comes to Round Hill Music with a diverse music and licensing background, as cultivated through her experience in environments as varied as an edgy indie label, a renowned major music publisher, and an award-winning advertising agency. She got her start in the dual role of Digital Sales & Marketing and Synch coordinator at One Little Indian Records, where she worked with artists including The Twilight Singers, B.C. Camplight, and Björk. Her time was divided between placing songs in film and TV productions and ensuring that the label’s artists had strong visibility on sites like iTunes and eMusic. Mallory then spent four and a half years in Warner Chappell Music Publishing’s Strategic Marketing department, where she worked with the company’s writers to place their songs in advertisements and video games. While there, Mallory had the chance to interact with a wide variety of writers and music, from the Gershwin and Cole Porter catalogues, to Radiohead, Todd Rundgren, Talking Heads, Múm and The Swell Season. She then spent a year in Interactive Business Affairs at Crispin Porter + Bogusky, where she worked on a multitude of interactive advertising campaigns, including Burger King Whopper Lust, Domino’s Pizza Hero, Domino’s Think Oven, Old Navy Snap Appy, the Jell-O Mood Meter, and the 2011 Small Business Saturday campaign for American Express. She has also done independent music clearance and supervision work under her own company, Burning Snow Music. Mallory has placed music in numerous advertisements, video games, and TV/film productions, including Bioshock, the Guitar Hero and Rock Band franchises, Carnival Cruise Lines, Chips Ahoy, and Rescue Me. She is a graduate of the Berklee College of Music, where she earned a dual degree in Music Business/Management and Performance (Voice).
Director of A&R
Kari is the former US Administrator of the independent publishing company, Sienna Sienna Songs. While there she secured over 150 cuts, with artists Gavin Rossdale, Buckcherry, Foreigner, Scorpions, Meatloaf, Motley Crue, Black Veil Brides, Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Suzie McNeil, David Cook, Cinder Road, Default, American Bang, Damien Leith, Atomic Tom, Rev Theory, Adelitas Way, James Durbin, Sick Puppies, Saving Abel, Lit, Vince Neil, Daughtry, Daniel Powter, and Aerosmith.
Before her career in the music business Kari worked in television production as Talent Producer for MTV’s hit show, Laguna Beach, casting for CMT, ABC, and Bravo, including Real Housewives of Orange County, Associate Producer for Style Star on E!, and online content Associate Producer for The Hills.
Kari attended the University of Mississippi on a dance scholarship as a team member of the Ole Miss Rebelettes. She also attended UCLA, graduating from their Cause-Related Marketing Program.
Senior Manager, Creative and Licensing
Steve joins Round Hill after spending the last five years of his career at Cherry Lane Music Publishing and BMG Rights Management. During his tenure at BMG, Steve was involved in the company’s largest growth period and was instrumental, from a synch (creative and licensing) perspective, in the integration of such companies as Cherry Lane Music Publishing, Evergreen Copyrights, Stage Three Music, Chrysalis Music Group, Bug Music, and R2M. Steve’s most recent role at BMG was Senior Manager of Marketing, Film & TV, wherein he managed international creative and licensing. This role involved the licensing and promotion of U.S.-based artists and writers to BMG’s foreign offices and sub-publishers. At BMG, one of Steve’s unique responsibilities was to present and explore ways of introducing and integrating European-based artists and songwriters into the U.S. market. Additionally, Steve developed a synch and licensing presence for BMG in Canada by opening direct relations with the local Film, TV, Video Game, and Advertising agencies. Steve started his career at ASCAP, where he was responsible for processing and reporting performances for TV commercials and On-Air Promotions. Steve is a graduate of SUNY Oneonta with a bachelor's degree in Music Business. Steve has studied classical guitar and plays the mandolin.
Prior to joining Round Hill Music, Britnie was an analyst at ASCAP in the Quality Assurance and Television departments. As an analyst, Britnie was responsible for calculating adjustments based on performance and copyright changes as well as interpreting data for statistical reporting across various platforms of distribution. Before Britnie’s employment at ASCAP, she interned for Pitchfork TV as an administrative assistant. Britnie attended Berklee College of Music where she earned a BA in Music Business and Management. While studying at Berklee, Britnie was a member of the Cornerstone Promotion FARM Team, which was responsible for running both CMJ and SXSW showcases.
After having worked for 6 years in Broadway production at Jujamcyn Theaters (Jersey Boys, Spring Awakening, American Idiot), she most recently had the honor of working in music marketing and company management on the Tony Award winning Broadway production and US National Tour of FELA! Amy has performed, produced events and booked bands at Bonnarroo, SXSW, Calgary Folk Festival, Ottawa Folk Festival, Winnipeg Folk Festival, Edmonton Folk Festival, Vancouver Folk Festival, Brooklyn’s Prospect Park Summerstage, Lincoln Center’s Songbook Series, Al Sharpton events, Brooklyn Bowl, Joe’s Pub, The Apollo, Bowery Ballroom, The Knitting Factory, The Troubador LA. She is proudly a backup singer and manager for Daptone Records artist Naomi Shelton and the Gospel Queens and has shared the stage with Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, The Roots, and Burning Spear. Prior to working in Broadway production, Amy had the fortunate opportunity to work with some of the most talented actors, directors and producers: Billy Crudup, Jeremy Piven, Christine Ebersole, Richard Kind, Edie Falco, Mary Louise Parker, Tony Award winning director Michael Mayer, Rocco Landesman, chairman of the National Endowments for the Arts and Jack Viertel, creative director of Encores! at City Center. Amy founded Soul Deep Productions, whose primary goal is to aid in the preservation of African American music. Amy is a graduate of Indiana University with a BA in Music Vocal Performance.
Maddy joins Round Hill Music bringing varied experience in the music industry both in New York and Nashville, Tennessee. While a student in Nashville, she held licensing, publicity and marketing internships with Sony/ATV Music Publishing, Universal Music Group and Dualtone Music Group. She has additional work experience in New York, including marketing, publishing and studio internships with Downtown Music Group.
Patrick’s early career started out with immediate success by signing the Austrian pop artist Falco, who’s single, “Der Kommissar” hit #1 in 19 countries along with the 1985 worldwide #1, “Rock Me Amadeus.” In the 90’s through 2003, Patrick served as Warner/Chappell Music’s Vice President of Creative and International. During his tenure at the company, Patrick secured US deals for such artists as Billie Ray Martin, Amber and Dido as well as signed Roger Sanchez, Janita, Lamya, Republica, Warren G, Pay the Girl, and the most lucrative for the company, Moby. Other notable signings include songwriters/producers Epicenter, Random, Twin, the Berman Brothers, and Cosgrove and Clark who co-wrote the Jennifer Paige’s 1998 worldwide hit “Crush” and seven cuts on the platinum Dreamstreet album. Patrick secured in excess of 200 cuts internationally, in all music genres, with artists as diverse as Ricky Martin, Laura Pausini, LMT, Soren Sko, Nana Mouskouri, 'N Sync, Cher, A Teens, L5, Baby do Brazil and Jakarta. After leaving Warner/Chappell Music in 2003, Patrick joined Eman Enterprises to run the creative department for the company’s publishing division.
While at Eman Patrick arranged a network of sub publishers, developed the seven contracted Latin writers, added Anglo writer Jason Phelps to the roster, built the catalogue to over 500 copyrights and secured forty cuts in the Latin market with acts such as Luis Fonsi, Ricky Martin Ednita Nazario, Reik, J.LO, RBD, and the song “Cancion del Pescado” that won the 2011 New Artist Latin Grammy for Alex Jorje y Lena. In 2007 Patrick formed Pure Pop Music with the signing of a J.V. with Air Chrysalis Scandinavia for urban pop writer G. White who’s songs were recorded by Sugababes in the UK, DJ Drama in the US, Jodi in South Africa, Joana Zimmer in Germany, and Jessica Mauboy in Australia. In 2008 he consulted as writer relations and song plugger for Denise Rich Songs/785 Publishing. Razor and Tie also brought Patrick in as a song plugger outside the US as well as to advise the company on their sub-publishing network.
That same year, Patrick signed Latin hit writer Juan Carlos Perez Soto. Together they built a new catalogue of songs resulting in a new co-publishing deal with EMI Music. Among the songs recorded this past year, the official Copa America soccer tournament song ‘’Creo en America’’ by Diego Torres and Yvette Sangalo. Also in 2008 Universal Records France brought Patrick/Pure Pop in to A&R for French superstar Florent Pagny‘s Spanish language album Amar y Amar that went to #1 in 2009 and certified triple platinum in France. In 2009 Air Chrysalis asked Patrick to help with their producers in the US and song pitching. The most successful was a top 4 single in the UK with ‘’The Overtones’’. SMV Germany also hired Patrick to work with their writer/producer Ivo Moring in the USA. Over the last few years Patrick has built Pure Pop into a boutique catalogue with just over 200 copyrights. Recent activity includes a recent single by Japan’s Pop Star Keana; two singles by Joana Zimmer in the Germany, Austria and Switzerland; the forthcoming single by Sylvan featuring Todd Wright in France; selected songs of Maria Christensen, Jim Dyke, Troy, Katrina Noorgergen and new artist Astraea.
Prior to joining Round Hill Music, Adam held Financial Analyst positions at Moelis & Company and Loews Corporation. Adam graduated with a BA from Cornell University.
